The Cussler Museum, which is located in Arvada, not far from I-70, is dedicated to historic automobiles. The museum, which was founded by thriller writer Clive Cussler and contains many of the vehicles featured in his best-selling Dirk Pitt novels, is dedicated to presenting his personal collection of automobiles, all of which were constructed between 1906 and 1965.

The Cussler Museum is devoted to the preservation of incredibly rare and historic automobiles from all around the world, including those from the United States. Established by famous best-selling author Clive Cussler in 2006, this huge collection of over 100 significant automobiles, spanning the years 1906 to 1965, has grown into a world-class museum.

Clive Cussler passed away in early 2020, but the museum is dedicated to the long-term preservation of more than a hundred of his rare and vintage automobiles, many of which were donated by the author. At any given time, there are approximately sixty of these automobiles on exhibit.

It is a 1906 Stanley Steamer that is the oldest car in the collection, and a 1965 Corvette Stingray is the most recent addition. The remainder of the collection includes automobiles from a variety of various brands, including Rolls Royce, Cadillac, Bentley, Lincoln, Ford, Bugatti, Mercedes Benz, Buick, Chrysler, Packard, and Studebaker, as well as vehicles from other countries.

The Cussler Museum is consistently ranked as one of Arvada’s top attractions, and it’s not difficult to see why. The automobiles on the show are top-of-the-line and meticulously maintained. In addition to his daughter overseeing the museum, the guy who restored many of the cars is occasionally on hand to speak with visitors about them and answer questions regarding their restoration.

If you’re keen to see the Cussler Museum, you’ll need to plan ahead of time if you want to see it between May and September. Its hours of operation are Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except on holidays. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $5 for children under the age of twelve.

Clive fancifully developed a passion for old antique cars while living in Southern California during the nineteen-forties and built a hot rod out of a 1936 Ford Sedan, according to legend. He purchased a black 1925 Auburn limousine for $18.00, which he and his friends used to travel to football games while dressed as gangsters and concealing beer and wine in a violin case that they carried past security agents to get into the stadium.

Years later, while his wife, Barbara, and he were traveling through the Colorado countryside, he remarked, “Take a look! There’s a 1946 Ford club coupe on the lot, just like the one I used to drive in high school.” The automobile was parked in front of a farm, with a For Sale sign posted on the windshield. He bought it for $400 and drove it back to his house, where he and his son worked on it in the street. This was the very first automobile in his collection. It is still considered to be one of the more spectacular enhancements that have been made over the years.
